Role:

Tesla's Aerodynamics team is looking for an exceptional Aerodynamics Engineer to grow our capabilities and help us accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. You will be involved in the development of ground breaking new products from their earliest conception, through to volume production and beyond, delivering unparalleled efficiency and ludicrous performance alongside uncompromising comfort, safety and reliability. The successful candidate will have a proven record of applying deep technical understanding to real world design problems to produce creative solutions. You will work dynamically with cross functional partners in Design, Vehicle Engineering and Program Management to meet challenging aerodynamics targets and redefine what is possible in the automotive industry.


Responsibilities:

  • Working alongside Designers to define products that are as aerodynamically efficient as they are aesthetically pleasing.
  • Developing aerodynamic concepts in CAD.
  • Evaluating and refining designs using CFD.
  • Defining and executing wind tunnel, road and track test programs.
  • Analyzing and documenting test and simulation results; presenting findings.
  • Providing feedback to the Programs team on aerodynamic attributes and development status.
  • Working with engineers to optimize part execution for aerodynamics and to resolve design conflicts.
  • Supporting Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Test and Modeling teams in vehicle level attribute optimization and characterization.
  • Developing tools and methods used within the Aerodynamics team.


Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of fluid dynamics.
  • A track record of aerodynamic design ability.
  • Detailed knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with wind tunnel, road and track testing methods.
  • Familiarity with using CAD software to create and manipulate 3D surface geometry.
  • Ability to work towards challenging, dynamic goals with minimal supervision.


Preferred:

  • Master's degree or above in Aerodynamics, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience using CFD software (preferably Star CCM+).
  • Experience using CAD software (preferably Catia).
  • Experience conducting aerodynamic testing.
  • Automotive or Motorsport industry experience.
  • A passion for sustainable energy or related technologies.
