Overview:
Princeton University Library seeks an energetic, detail-oriented individual to be part of the Holdings Management Unit. The primary duty of this position is to ensure that library materials transferred to our remote storage facility, ReCAP, are properly prepared. This includes updating catalog records, and appropriate tracking and routing in the most efficient and manner. This position also handles withdrawals from the PUL collection and other record maintenance tasks rigorously monitoring quality control on all workflows. This position reports to the Supervisor of the Holdings Management Unit, working within a team of five other employees. Consistent high production, attention to detail and ability to multi-task are essential elements of the position.The incumbents may be required to work at different library locations on and off-campus, as necessary.

- Transfers monographs and serials to RECAP, the remote storage facility and to other branch locations on campus. Process withdrawals, replacements, added copies/volumes,
- Problem solving: Identifying and resolving miscellaneous catalog record problems while processing items for transfer as well as problems referred to the unit from Circulation, Shelving and Branch library staff.
- Physical processing as needed, makes new call number labels, duplicate barcodes, attaches bookplates and property stamps.
- Pulling books from stack areas onto trucks and unpacking boxes with items sent from branch libraries to process. Shelving and shifting of books in stacks, as necessary.
- Opening mail sent to unit. Scanning material in and out of appropriate statuses in Alma and routing material to the next step.
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to correctly follow procedures and guidelines.
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands and organize work effectively in order to consistently meet deadlines, and have excellent time management skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret catalog data and understand record relationships: bibliographic, copy level (including volume holdings), and items. Ability to distinguish between monographs, sets, and serials Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
- Language proficiency not required but the ability to work with set parameters for handling material published in most foreign languages is, as well as the ability to detect the language.
- Basic computer skills (familiarity with email, Microsoft Windows Operating Systems; Word/Excel, Ability to learn library’s automated system)
- Physical requirements include the ability to move books from shelf to book truck and vice versa, using a stepladder to reach high shelves when necessary. Ability to push often heavy book trucks. Ability to handle volumes that may be large, heavy, or in poor condition. Ability to work in an environment with exposure to dust.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior library experience with technical services functions (e.g. creating and modifying item records)
- Knowledge of an integrated library management system(s), such as Alma.
- Reading knowledge of a Western European or Near Eastern Languages.
