SUMMARY:
The Clinic Receptionist/Billing Clerk will primarily be responsible for scheduling, receiving the patients and general coordination of the patient load at the clinic. S/he will also assist with insurance billing and collections. S/he will also maintain statistical information and will prepare reports as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Records time and date of appointment in appointment book, including referral appointments.
- Answers telephone professionally and with courtesy.
- Obtains needed insurance and clinic statistical information.
- Prepares monthly statistical reports for administration and or the accounting department.
- Bills private insurance billing claims and industrial insurance claims in a timely manner.
- Is responsible for general clerical duties including pulling and filing of charts, putting together new charts, purging charts, filing super-bills, filing ledger cards, posting payments, and posting charges on patient accounts.
- Types billing lists of insurance that has been billed and marks off on ledger cards.
- Reviews private insurance cards to make sure their account is up to date.
- Separates superbills for billing of Medicare, MediCal, Private Insurance, State Compensation, and private party patients.
- Writes down in charts any medicine refills requested from pharmacies and gives to correct provider for approval or denial.
- If time permits, files EOB’s with correct billing. Sends insurance letter to patient stating what insurance paid and what patient owes.
- Is responsible for compiling daily statistics.
- Orders supplies as needed through the hospital.
- Sends letter as appropriate for missed appointments.
- Is familiar with clinic policies and procedures and will follow protocols as written.
- Transfers calls to appropriate departments of individuals. Maintains records of all messages and delivers messages to appropriate departments or individuals.
- Obtains necessary patient and financial information.
- Collects monies and writes receipts for payments made at the front office.
- Is able to use independent judgment in carrying out instructions concerning posting of accounts.
- Is able to type with reasonable speed and accuracy.
- Establishes and maintains working relationships with the clinic and hospital departments.
- Communicates effectively and pleasantly with the general public and patients, maintaining their right to privacy and confidentiality.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $32.58 per hour
