Job Summary

Clinical and technical liaison to nursing, medical staff and other patient care areas to coordinate and optimize aspects of planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of clinical information systems. This position will be responsible for analyzing complex clinical operations and structure processes to facilitate decision making regarding clinical systems. Utilizing the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine and design information processes, and ensuring information systems are consistent with professional standards of practice. Helps to identify, evaluate, and assess clinical information systems and develop recommendations on the impact of integration with existing workflows.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coaches, mentors, and provides one-on-one at the elbow support for members of the clinical team in gaining and maintaining competency in use of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Identifies and manages informatics projects to improve clinical workflow processes
  • Develops and implements strategies to optimize the data management within the medical record and revenue cycle process as needed while balancing support priorities
  • Identifies and implements applications or workflow process improvements that assist staff in assimilating information technology into their daily practice
  • Advocates for patients’ needs and rights pertaining to the healthcare system’s clinical information systems including issues of confidentiality of medical information
  • Educates clinicians and patients across the enterprise regarding the use of the EMR and associated best practices
  • Assists and supports end users with problems, questions or projects related to the EMR

Required Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in a clinical setting
  • Associate’s Degree or certification in clinical discipline (e.g. nursing, medical assistant, surgery technician, pharmacy technician), information technology, business administration, or a related healthcare field is required
  • Health Information System experience not required but strongly desired
  • Experience with teaching or training on new information systems

  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, managers, and providers
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
  • Ability to remain professional and exhibit spirit of helpfulness
  • Ability to follow HIPAA policies to maintain the privacy and security of patient information
