CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT

POSITION SUMMARY

The CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (C.N.A.) is responsible for providing routine daily nursing care to assigned residents in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations as well as facility’s established nursing care policies and procedures. Reports D.O.N., Charge Nurse or other Nursing Supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works in office as well as throughout facility (i.e., resident rooms, common areas, dining rooms)
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
  • Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and in other positions temporarily as necessary.
  • Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to Hepatitis B virus.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, pushes, pulls, stoops. Walks and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Attends and participates in all state regulated and mandatory in services and continuing education programs.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be a graduate of a state approved C.N.A. program
  • Must have CPR certification.
  • Prior experience with geriatrics preferred; training provided, however.

SPECIFIC REQURIEMENTS

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines governing nursing functions in the long-term care facility.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

PHYSICAL and SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

(with or without the aid of mechanical devices)

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or transfer a MINIMUM of forty (40) lbs.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
  • Must be able to work a fast passed heavy lift floor like rehab when needed or on a regular basis.
