Escort Associate
- (3219182)GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the general direction of the Patient Escort/Specimen Delivery Supervisor and within established hospital and departmental guidelines, the Patient Escort
and Specimen Delivery Associate coordinates and performs the activities
required to efficiently escort patients and deliver specimens throughout the hospital complex in a professional manner.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transport patients via stretcher, wheelchair, bed or walking to and from test sites, physician's offices, lobbies and various other areas within the hospital. Assist hospital staff with the movement of patient's on/off transport equipment and with medical equipment.
- Safely escorts patients and obtains signatures for patient and records release.
- Utilize Green Transport Notes to ensure the safe transport of patients.
- Assure accurate patient identification by comparing patients ID armbands, leg bands
with medical record.
- Transport patient transporting equipment to hospital areas.
- Retrieve, disinfect and performs minimal maintenance on reusable patient transporting equipment between patient uses according to established procedures.
- Ensure certain patient transporting equipment is functioning properly.
- Maintain confidentiality of information related to individual patients and patient care
units.
- Maintain accurate records by keeping a written log of all assignments and tasks.
- Reports problems such as delays, faulty equipment, equipment shortage and elevator malfunctions, etc, to the Central Dispatchers.
- Acknowledge and report emergency situations to the Supervisor.
- Call Dispatch Desk upon completion of task for further assignments.
- Attend to the patient comfort and safety with courtesy at all times.
- Assist with Med.-flights while adhering to safety protocol.
- Assist in other areas of the department upon request.
- Proficient in using Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system as it relates to the Epic
Specimen Delivery Associate:
- Use Personal Data Assistant to pick up and deliver specimens from patient care units
to appropriate labs with the aid of a bag and/or cart.
- Make rounds twice a shift to the Admitting Office to pick up and deliver front sheets
and plates to assigned patient care units.
- Assist in other areas of the department upon request.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Able to work in a fast paced and stressful environment.
- On your feet most of 8 hour shift.
- Lifting, carrying, and pushing.
- Some hazards associated with soiled linens and soiled equipment.
- Standing/walking most of the shift.
- Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. under ideal safe lifting conditions as specified by NIOSH, lifting equations
- Pushing/pulling force. 30 pounds initial force 13 pounds sustained force.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language.
- Perform accurate record keeping.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. and assist with patient transfers.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
