Riverwood Golf Club:


The Golf Course superintendent reports to the Property Manager, manages and is responsible for operation of the golf course and other grounds including around the clubhouse and maintenance facility. The expectation are not limited to: turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, financial management, scheduling and maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance of regulatory issues. The Golf Course Superintendent works to create an environment where staff is involved and enthusiastic, with open communications and respect for themselves, members, guests and the property

Responsibilities:

  • Staff schedules done directly; provide instruction to maintenance personnel providing the necessary conditions for the day or event.
  • Ensures subordinates are properly trained to do their job safely and efficiently.
  • Works closely with the Golf Pro to maintain clear communication as to what is needed and events of the day or near future.
  • Performs or closely monitors all fertilizer and pesticide applications.
  • Works with and in the absence of the Irrigation Tech; directs the scheduling and daily adjusting of the irrigation.
  • Ensures supplies and materials are ordered and available when needed.
  • Assists with budgeting, tracking and projecting to stay on budget in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Reporting any significant irregularities in course turf or plant quality to the Golf Pro and GM

Employment Standards:

  • Must have the ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment while maintaining good customer service levels.
  • Able to perform, if necessary, all skill levels of grounds construction and maintenance work; operates all hand & powered equipment and regularly performs work involving the irrigation system.
  • Must be able to work independently and be a self-starting problem solver.
  • Requires working knowledge of the maintenance and care of turf grass including Champion greens, overseeding rye tees, roughs and fairways.
  • A proficient operator of most maintenance equipment and mowers (Toro, John Deere & Jacobsen).
  • Provides and/or supervises technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure they are working within state and federal safe working guidelines.
  • Conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action if needed.
  • Must have a working knowledge in the proper use of fertilizers, soil conditioners, pesticides and irrigation system including sprinklers, satellites, central (Toro-hydraulic/Network 8000) and some pump station knowledge.
  • Directs and assists the staff with planting of new vegetation, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs.
  • No physical limitations with respect to normal manual labor, such as lifting, digging, etc.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 70 lbs.

Knowledge & Other Requirements:

  • Must have a Pesticide Applicators License. If licensed in another state, then must be able to obtain a Pesticide Applicators License within 90 days.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 5 to 7 years’ experience as a Golf Course Superintendent with private club facilities experience.
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office Suite
  • GCSAA Class A member
