Primary Scheduled Hours: Full Time variable shift, 80 hours per pay period


Job Summary:

To lead and supervise the daily performance of staff engineers. Performs maintenance and urgent, corrective and routine repairs in electrical, mechanical and HVAC equipment. Assists Chief Engineer in matters of performance reviews and discipline. Lead Engineer shall assist the Chief Engineer in maintaining an effective organization, administering monetary controls, budget development, planning, training of staff in their general and specific duties, safety and effective management. Supervises staff engineers in the Engineering Department. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities. Performs skills (journey level) maintenance, repair and construction duties in one or more trades. May serve as a technical expert in a specialty field and lead the work of others. Performs skilled work in one or more of the following areas: Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing and Life Safety.

    • 72 – bed, high –level care, Advanced Assisted Living Facility
    • 42 – apartment; low-moderate care level Assisted Living Facility

Education Background and Experience

Minimum Education:


High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED); or two to three (2-3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications:


Technical understanding of boiler operations and building automation systems.

Licensed HVAC, Electrician, or Plumber.

Strong preference given to Journeyman Electrician

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides direction to assigned staff.
  • Oversees the requisitioned, corrective, emergency and maintenance of buildings, equipment and offsite facilities associated with the district.
  • Reports daily to the Chief Engineer regarding the general condition of the facility and the general progress of work being accomplished.
  • Reviews maintenance requests and schedules work tasks for staff engineers checking to see that they are properly executed within a reasonable length of time. This includes requisitioned, corrective and emergency maintenance. Ensures that work sites are left clean and that tools are returned to Facilities Department. Makes periodic inspections, noting general condition and keeps the Chief Engineer informed regarding the needs and/or changes required to keep the facility in safe, well maintained condition.
  • Orders selected stock items such as plumbing supplies, wood, electrical and equipment parts so as to maintain maximum efficiency levels at all times according to established procedures.
  • Performs requisitioned, corrective, emergency and maintenance of electrical distribution, mechanical, HVAC, power generation, plumbing and medical gas systems and building structures as required:
  • Responsible for inspecting, calibrating, adjusting, lubricating and repairing or replacing components as necessary.
  • Maintains records of maintenance repairs.
  • Lead Engineer will respond to all emergency repair calls.
  • Diagnoses system malfunctions on mechanical and electrical equipment. Repairs or replaces defective parts as necessary.
  • Assists in the training of staff in the operation and repair of equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining records to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, NFPA and accrediting organization regulations.

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range ($26.83 – $31.60/hour) dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation increment increases annually.
