What You Will Do
The Certified Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) will provide lifecycle and systems integration support and perform adjustments, refurbishment, overhaul, upgrades, inspections, and component testing of the MK41 Vertical Launch System. Work will be performed both CONUS and OCONUS aboard Ticonderoga Class Guided Missile Cruisers (CG 47), Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG 51), and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) ships. Additionally, services will be performed at shore sites, land-based test/tactical facilities, training commands shipyards, and aboard ships in-port and at-sea for the U.S.A., Allied Nations, and FMS customers. Per diem available based on location when on travel, all travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company.
What You Must Have
A minimum of four (4) years full time hands-on technical experience in the assessment, maintenance, installation, test, or repair of MK 41 Vertical Launching Systems (VLS).
Must possess and submit proof of a current Vertical Launch Systems MK 41 VLS Maintenance Technician (SMT) certification (Navy Enlisted Classification code 0981) obtained in accordance with NAVSEA Standing Instruction 86-2D. SMT certificate, white card, must be current.
Experience assembling, installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing products and ensures products are in compliance with customer requirements
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues to the component level, such as subsystem failures, mechanical, and servo system misalignments.
Ability to perform pre-overhaul system inspections and prepare detailed reports outlining discrepancies and recommended corrective actions.
Ability to maintain a safe work environment, ensures compliance with safety objectives, ensures compliance with hazardous material objectives, and resolves work site health issues.
Ability to provide necessary training to ensure internal and external requirements are met.
Ability to plan, estimate, and schedule required personnel and equipment for field service projects and to manage projects to cost schedule, quality, and safety standards
Ability to resolve field service issues such as scheduling conflicts and funding concerns with supervisors.
Ability to maintain configuration control databases and responsible for all logistics functions for assigned field service projects.
Intricate knowledge and understanding of analog and digital circuitries, able to trace electronic signals using schematics, and block diagrams.
Ability to travel 4-5 weeks and up to 3-6 months at a time. Longer shipyard periods of 3-6 months are a possibility, although rare.
Must be a self-starter, ability to consistently deliver at a high level with minimum supervision and maintain continuous communications with peers and senior management.
Ability to negotiate through conflicting demands for resources and manage time to drive overall organizational success.
Good analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a shipyard industrial environment, able to traverse ladders, and stairwells onboard ships and in dry docks.
Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Must have a valid passport or the ability to obtain a passport.
Must be able and willing to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years related experience.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 50 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
