Successful candidate for Principal Mechanical Engineer will conduct thermal analysis for space flight missions as well as IRAD/CRAD space programs. Analysis tasks will typically be for EO/IR or RF hardware designs with analysis tasks for evaluating orbital conditions, sizing heaters, straps, and isolators, and performing STOP analysis. More advanced analysis techniques will be learned as required. Analysis support will be provided through all phase of the program considered., from proposal, to conceptual design/requirements derivation, to PDR/CDR, and build/test/delivery. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will work to influence the efficiency and suitability of the thermal design and may support internal design reviews.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of eight years of experience with thermal analysis or four years with an MS in Mechanical

Engineering or similar

  • Ability to solve problems by applying basic scientific principles, theories and concepts
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOD Secret security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Familiarity with commercial Finite Element Analysis codes, preferably Thermal Desktop, NX, SINDA, or similar will be considered.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to discuss technical material with others.

Experience with using hand-calculations for thermal analysis using Excel, Matlab, TK Solver, or other.

Ability to solve problems by applying basic scientific principles, theories and concepts.

The Thermal Analyst is responsible for detailed Thermal analysis to support all phases of programs including development and production.

The analyses will cover a wide range of difficult problems, requiring solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.

The analysis tasks will span the spectrum from classical hand analyses to detailed analyses requiring the use of finite element analysis software.

As a Thermal Analyst, you will work under general direction and will be expected to define the scope and level of analysis required to meet required objectives and will be held accountable for completing the work within the agreed upon cost and schedule.

Additionally, you will be expected to present their work for peer reviews and to be a peer reviewer for other engineers’ work.

The customers of this position will include internal personnel and programs as well as external Government(s) personnel and programs.

You will work with the customer and engineering leadership to define testing required to validate Thermal analyses and to verify that hardware is compliant with requirements.

The Analyst is expected to plan and support tests, perform data reduction and engage in Thermal model correlation.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in planning, preparation, and execution of TVAC test
  • Knowledge of commercial CAD software, such as Pro/E or similar
  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings and specifications
  • Possess an active security clearance

Required Education:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field from accredited university

Desired Education:

  • MS or PhD in related field from an accredited university

Requires advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.

May have broad knowledge of project management. Requires substantial knowledge of RTX projects, programs or

systems in order to provide enhancements within job area. Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years

prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience

Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a

minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

The salary range for this role is 103,000 USD - 215,000 USD; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
