BayCare Health Systems is currently seeking Mental Health Technician's to join our outstanding and compassionate team at St. Joseph's Hospital North in Lutz!
St. Joseph’s Hospital North, part of BayCare Health System, is a 33-bed inpatient psychiatric unit that is a state-of-the-art program that will provide acute mental health services to a patient population that has advanced medical and psychaitric comorbidities. Our experienced team is comprised of psychiatrists, social workers, registered nurses, case managers and mental health technicians. St. Joseph’s Hospital North is a Baker Act-receiving facility.
- Mental Health Technician II
- Mental Health Technician III
- Mental Health Technician Prime Pool
- Provides direct patient care to psychiatric inpatients under the direct Supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Provides ongoing monitoring and observation of patients to ensure safety and well-being.
- Promotes communication and therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Assists with physical care under the direction of a RN.
- Promotes coordination of the unit by completing orders, making phone calls, and directing calls and information to the charge nurse.
- Organizational, computer, training & clinical skills
- Exceptional teamwork
Mental Health Tech III is Responsible for:
- Performing a leadership role amongst other Mental Health Technicians through communication, education and mentoring of team members.
- Ensuring that the team is consistently monitoring and observing patients to ensure safety and well-being.
- Promotes effective communication and therapeutic relationships with patients and team members.
- Maintaining and ensures appropriate boundaries with patients and team at all times. Promotes coordination of the unit by assisting with patient needs during entire length of stay in collaboration with the treatment team. Demonstrates flexibility in assignments to meet the needs of the facility.

Qualifications:
Required Certifications and Licensures:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- CNA (Nursing Assistant) - preferred
- Patient Care Technician - preferred
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Bachelor's in a related field in lieu of experience for a Mental Health Technician II
- Master's Degree in a related field in lieu of experience for a Mental Health Technician III
Mental Health Technician II
- 6 months Psychology
- Or 6 months Medical Technician
- Or 6 months Paramedics
- 1 year unit secretary - preferred
- 2 years Psychology
Specific Skills:
- Organizational & Computer skills appropriate to the position
