Multiple Tenure-Track Positions in Teacher Education, Educational Leadership and Policy
Job description
The Department of Teacher Education, Educational Leadership, and Policy (TEELP) at the UNM College of Education, invites applications for the following tenure-track positions:
Curriculum & Instruction (1 position)—this is an open rank position
Reading/Literacy Education (1 position)—Assistant professor
Mathematics Education (1 position)—Assistant professor
Educational Leadership (2 positions)-Assistant professor
Each of these appointments will begin August 2023.
The UNM College of Education, comprised of five academic departments, is a future-oriented, dynamic professional school organized to reflect the following values: Advocacy, Building Professional Identities, Collaboration, Building Strong School/University Partnerships, Diversity and Social Justice, Interdisciplinary Inquiry/Scholarship, and Teaching and Learning.
The TEELP Department is the largest in the College with the uniqueness of having teacher education and educational leadership faculty addressing Pre-K-12 and higher education needs together as an academic unit. The Department has both undergraduate and graduate programs.
New funding from the state of New Mexico and the University of New Mexico, provide a wonderful opportunity for an incoming cohort of tenure-line Assistant Professors in Reading/Literacy Education, Mathematics Education and Educational Leadership, and an open-rank position for Curriculum and Instruction.
We invite applications from outstanding scholars for an assistant professor position who are trained in leadership theory and research, have Pre-K-12 school leadership experience, and who can provide a balance between theory, practice, and research in the delivery of our graduate programs and initiatives that prepare candidates for leadership in urban and/or rural and Tribal settings.
Responsibilities: The tenure-line faculty will teach undergraduate students in teacher education, and teach graduate students specializing in Curriculum & Instruction, Teacher Education and/or Educational Leadership. Teach load is determined in accordance with the department’s approved workload policy:

Other responsibilities include: advising master’s and doctoral students specializing in curriculum and instruction, teacher education and/or educational leadership; chairing and/or serving on inquiry projects, master’s exams, theses, and doctoral dissertation committees; serving on department and university committees; contributing to program partnerships and initiatives; and developing an active research agenda.
Minimum requirements:
- Earned doctorate from an accredited university in Literacy/Reading Education, Mathematics Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction or a closely related field, depending on the desired position. All requirements for the doctorate must have been completed by the time of the start date of the appointment.
- Minimum of three years of successful experience as a K-12 educator in the United States (for EDUC positions) or PK-20 leader (e.g., principal, assistant principal, superintendent, director, assistant director) {for LEAD positions}.
- Evidence of excellence or potential for excellence in research in the area of the desired position.
Preferred requirements:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching in the content area in public elementary (grades K-8) and/or secondary (grades 7-12) schools in the U.S. (Applicants for the Literacy/Reading Education and Mathematics Education positions)
- Evidence of excellence or potential for teaching courses required for the desired position (All applicants)
- Potential for securing external funding (e.g., Federal grants, Tribal resources, state funding, private/foundations) (All applicants)
- Experience with a variety of course delivery methods (All applicants)
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities. (All applicants)
- Experience building partnerships among educational stakeholders (All applicants)
- Knowledge of or experience teaching quantitative and/or qualitative research methods (All applicants)
- Working knowledge or better of Spanish and/or one of the Indigenous languages (All applicants)
- Experience with or knowledge of educational improvement in urban and/or rural and Indigenous settings (All applicants)
- Experience in collaborating with Tribal communities and Indigenous/Native-serving educational schools, colleges and agencies (All applicants)
- Experience with Indigenous education scholarship, theory, and research (All applicants)
- Experience in writing and/or analyzing educational policy (Educational Leadership applicants)
