Surgical Pathologist Assistant

Pay: $40/hr - $45/hr

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree
• ASCP Certification
• NYS Patholgists Assistant license OR Clinical Lab Technologist license

Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Senior Pathologists' Assistant performs technical functions for the Anatomic Pathology Laboratories.

Essential Job Duties:

• Triages specimens received among Gross Room technicians and residents.
• Performs and processes frozen section specimens. Responsible for the examination, dissection/sampling, dictation and processing of over 400 specimen part types submitted to Pathology including biopsy and major complex resection cases.
• This requires extensive knowledge of anatomy, pathology, medical terminology and testing modalities. Sections processed consequently document the pathology at hand, that being carcinoma or infectious process, whereby further medical and/or surgical intervention may be warranted for direct patient care.
• Assists residents and/or attending’s when grossing/examining specimens or with specimen resubmission.
• Troubleshoots all equipment in the Gross Room. Troubleshoots/assists in answering questions as it pertains to specimens with the Accession Team and clinicians. Obtains tissue for processing of slides used as controls for histology and/or immunopathology.
• Assists attending’s in research projects that may be implemented as an aid in rendering diagnoses.
• Packages specimens that need to be sent out for diagnostic purposes. Must be trained in the Packaging and Shipping of Infectious Substances Performs x raying blocks for micro calcifications, fetuses with skeletal anomalies, etc.
• Troubleshoots all equipment in the Gross Room. Troubleshoots/assists in answering questions as it pertains to specimens with the Accession Team and clinicians.
• Abides by all policies and procedures as outlined in the various hospital and departmental manuals.
• Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Job Types: Contract, Temporary

Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
