he Patient Services Coordinator position is responsible for receipt of initial referral, scheduling of new patients, insurance verification, initial/recurring insurance authorizations if applicable, monitoring of patient appointments and transportation coordination. The Patient Services Coordinator performs these tasTks under the direct supervision of the Business Office Director, Lead Registered Nurse and direction of the Regional Director and/or Vice President of Operations.Primary Responsibilities:
- Seeks and obtains sufficient information necessary to function effectively in the health care setting where assigned.
- Enters referral information received into RXH’s EMR system.
- Scheduling for wound care visit, utilizing RXH’s EMR system.
- Provide preliminary and final schedules to host facility contact via EMR.
- Booking appointments appropriately based on time, staffing, equipment and supplies.
- Cross reference will be made to physicians’ credentials for specialty and delineation of privileges and for a list of procedures approved for the wound care center.
- Registration to be accomplished and in accordance with hospital policy requirements as well as RXH’s EMR system.
- All registration information must be confirmed with the patient and or responsible party.
- Verify specific insurance benefits and obtain preauthorization for wound care procedures.
- Perform daily patient schedule, charge entry reconciliations and account for all outstanding superbills as requested.
- Assist as requested by lead nurse for follow-up of lab/test results.
- Practices effective customer service skills with patients, host facilities, vendors and colleagues always.
- Responds by telephone in a courteous and professional manner.
- Takes ownership and responds positively to address mistakes and resolve complaints and improve quality.
- Maintains open communication with Lead Registered Nurse, Clinical Team, Community Educators, management, host facility staff, providers, and the business office staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Demonstrates awareness of patient’s age, growth, and developmental level when performing assigned tasks.
- Reports problems promptly to the designated supervisor.
- Reports to work on time and is flexible.
- Adheres to RXH’s Privacy and Security Policies as it relates to HIPAA regulations.
- Respects and maintains patient confidentiality in written, verbal, and electronic information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Substantial experience in front desk role in a hospital outpatient or medical practice setting is required.
- Must have intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must have experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Possesses excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communications skills.
- Is professional in appearance and actions.
- Consistently displays behavior that enhances the image of the organization as evidenced by professional and courteous behavior toward all patients, referral sources, host facility staff, and co-workers.
- Fosters a sense of teamwork.
- Flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligation.
- Has satisfactorily passed pre-employment requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Work may require sitting at a desk for long periods of time, utilizing phone, and use of a computer. Work requires the physical demands of bending, lifting, sitting or performing other work requiring moderate physical exertion (30 to 50 pounds) on a frequent basis (16 to 50% of time), when required.
