Police Aides perform clerical duties in the day-to-day operations at police precincts or bureaus and provide the first point of contact for citizens. Responsibilities include greeting citizens; responding to routine and emergency inquiries in person and over the telephone; ensuring the precinct vehicle fleet is properly maintained and ready for each shift; accurately entering information into police databases; maintaining department supplies and equipment; and other administrative duties.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Able to handle difficult customers daily.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint Visio, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
SALARY
$12.60 (minimum) - $18.28 (maximum) hourly / $26,208.00 - $38,022.40 annually
BENEFITS
A comprehensive benefits package is offered which includes traditional pension with employer and employee contributions; choice of medical HMO, PPO, or HSA/HDHP plan; wellness incentive of up to $720 annually; dental; vision; life insurance; long-term disability; 401(a) and 457 plans; medical enrollment includes a monthly $150 City contribution to a Post-Employment Health Plan; bus/light rail pass; tuition reimbursement program; paid time off includes 12.5 paid holidays, 12 vacation days, and 15 sick days and personal leave days. Additionally, effective 10/1/2022, Paid Parental Leave is now offered to eligible employees up to 480 hours (12 weeks) of paid leave for the birth, adoption or foster care placement of a child during a 12-month period.

Pension Information
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Six months of public contact or customer assistance experience.
- Ability to perform routine clerical work.
- An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

- Movinng objects weighing up to 20 pounds may be required.
- Some vacancies are assigned to a 24-hour operation and will be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays

- Positions in the Police Department must meet the background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. The general factors for disqualification are listed here.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Experience working in a police or security environment.
- Experience working in fast-paced and stressful environments.
- Experience in data entry and completing detailed factual reports using law enforcement databases such as RMS, CAD, ACIC, NCIC, and ACJIS is desirable.
