Scheduled hours Full Time Day position 80 hours


Job Summary:

Responsible for performing the appropriate procedures to verify patient eligibility, coordinate benefits, run test claims and determine patient coverage/responsibility for services and testing and implementation of new plan business. Expedites the administrative requirement for patient referrals, dealing directly with health plans. Making decisions and authorizes risk plan referrals, utilizing guidelines.

  • Newport Hospital and Health Services is located in Newport, WA on the Washington-Idaho border. We are an independent rural healthcare provider.
  • Newport Hospital and Health Services consists of:
    • 24 bed Rural Community Hospital - Trauma Level IV
    • 15 providers Rural Health Clinic
    • 72 – bed, high –level care, Advanced Assisted Living Facility
    • 42 – apartment; low-moderate care level Assisted Living Facility
    • In 2021 we celebrated our 100th year in operation servicing the local members of Newport, WA and the surrounding communities.

Education Background and Experience

Minimum Education:


Must have High School Diploma or GED


Required Licensure / Certifications:


Required Experience:


Medical Terminology.


Preferred Qualifications:


One (1) year of experience as Medical Biller & Coder.

Insurance authorization/verification experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs Insurance Verification of benefit coverage on all of patient's insurance plans for each service being provided.
  • Obtains and documents in the system all information related to coinsurance, copay, deductibles, authorization requirements, etc.
  • Creates documentation required to service the patient per policy and payer guidelines.
  • Determines estimated patient financial responsibility using insurance verification information and payer contracts and/or self-pay guidelines.
  • Obtains initial authorization prior to admitting the patient for all services for any insurance plan that has authorization requirements.
  • Obtains reauthorization as necessary, reviews physician orders from pharmacy to determine if authorization is required on changes / additions to therapy for patients that are already on service.

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range ($18.50 – $21.79/hour) dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation increment increases annually.
