The scientist will be working in Analytical Laboratory of the Company’s Global R&D Juice Center based in Apopka, Florida, with responsibilities ranging from connecting and collaborating with team members and clients; developing/validating analytical methods; building internal and external analytical capabilities; designing experiments, conducting routine and non-routine testing; interpreting data, and communicating to technical and non-technical audience.

What You’ll Do for Us

  • Candidates with industry hands-on experiences in sample preparations and profiling and quantitation of flavors and volatile organic compounds in juices by GC and GC/MS; abilities in non-routine troubleshooting/problem solving and method development/validation in analytical support of business projects (particularly in flavors testing, juices/food/beverage analysis, environmental, consumer products).

  • Excellent skills in communication (verbal and written), instrument maintenance, data correlation and interpretation are essential.

  • Candidates with experiences in LC, LC/MS, and GC/Olfactometry are desirable.

  • Experiences in sample cleanup and sample preparation techniques from various matrices for routine and non-routine qualitative and quantitative analyses are needed.

  • Experience in trace analysis and characterization of unknowns as well as knowledge and experiences in flavor chemistry/science and organic chemistry are highly preferred.

  • Responsibilities of this position also include searching scientific literature and other relevant technical information sources to uncover emerging trends and leverage findings to establish newer capabilities, conduct routine and non-routine testing, writing validated method reports, documenting findings.

  • Work both independently and in a collaborative team environment to support R&D projects (particularly collaborations with Apopka R&D, Flavor Research, and other analytical functions within the Company) and company’s needs.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Candidates of interest will have a Ph.D. or BS/MS degree in Analytical Chemistry.

  • Qualified candidates should have 0-5 years of industry experience with Ph.D. or 5+ years of experience with BS/MS.

Function Specific Activities and Technical Skills

  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in GC and GC/MS and flavor science; the ability to acquire, establish and apply new knowledge and capabilities; maintaining laboratory equipment and instrumentation (e.g., troubleshooting, conducting preventative maintenance, calibrating and repairing) and the desire and abilities to collaborate and communicate across functions are essential to this position.

  • Conduct review of scientific or other literature in order to maintain and improve laboratory knowledge/skill, identify appropriate analytical techniques for projects/studies.

  • Perform chemical analyses using instrumental methods in order to determine the composition of samples; interact with clients; organize the workflow and schedule tasks to maximize efficiency.

  • Basic Analytical Chemistry: Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis. This includes preparation, separation, detection and other techniques and applying concepts of precision and accuracy. It also includes understanding new developments in the field and their effect on our products, ingredients and packaging materials.

  • Advanced Analytical Chemistry: Expert ability to integrate analytical chemistry techniques and to apply the most appropriate technique(s) to solve broad range of analytical problems.

  • Laboratory/Analytical Instrumentation: Knowledge of instrumental theory, mechanical construction and operation, maintenance requirements and ability to operate, maintain, modify and repair laboratory instruments.

  • Chromatography: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of chromatographic separations and their application to the analysis of ingredients, syrups, beverages, concentrates or other substances. This includes the ability to use chromatographic and mass spectrometry techniques for quantitative and qualitative analyses.

Travel: 5% domestic.
