Stew Leonard’s WINES began when Stew Leonard, Jr., the CEO and President of Stew Leonard’s food stores and his two sisters, Jill and Beth, and brother, Tom, were sitting at the dinner table. They realized the only item on the table that their store did not sell was the wine. The meal was fantastic, but the wine was just ok. Stew said to his sisters, “We can do better. Don’t you agree?”Stew and his family decided to take their decades of retail experience in the food business and apply it to wine. They agreed that any store, which opened under the “Stew Leonard’s” trademark, would offer customers a friendly, well-trained staff and a clean, organized store. We want any customer in a Stew Leonard’s store to feel comfortable asking questions about wine and to enjoy it as much as we do. After studying the industry, taking multiple courses and traveling to numerous wineries, Beth L. Hollis, Stew’s sister, opened the first wine store in Yonkers, New York, in 1999. The Stew Leonard’s Mark is a registered trademark or service mark of Stew Leonard’s, a Connecticut partnership and is registered in the United States. Each wine store is independently owned and operated and is not part of a cooperative buying group or affiliated with the Stew Leonard’s food stores.

Position: Spirits Merchandiser
Reports To: Wine Shop Manager and Team Leader(s)
Location: Onsite – Wine Store
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non- Exempt

Job Summary:
Stew Leonard’s Wines of Clifton, NJ offers the best selection of wine and spirits at amazing prices. Customers love shopping at Stew Leonard’s Wines. As a Spirits Merchandiser, you will make sure the sales floor is in the best shape possible for customers to shop. You would also have a passion behind all Spirits (Vodka, Tequila, Whiskey, Scotch, etc.) and will help educate customers on top trends for Spirits and make recommendations!

Key Responsibilities:

• Assists customers with Spirits knowledge and pairings.
• Maintains high visibility and assists customers on sales floor.
• Demonstrates exceptional service and selling skills.
• Supports all sales, promotions and campaigns.
• Helps with merchandising the store to maximize sales in both spirits and wine
• Helps with special orders.
• Helps with staff sampling.
• Closes/opens store as needed.
• Assist with other store operations tasks- i.e. cleaning break area, restrooms, collecting carts, stocking bags, and materials at the register

Education and Experience Requirements:

• No sales experience required, we are looking for someone with a great attitude and that is knowledgeable and passionate about Spirits
• Strong selling skills
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, periods leading up to major retail holidays, and holidays as necessary for the business.

Working Conditions:

• On occasion, may be required to work in the parking lot, with exposure to weather extremes
• The position requires frequent walking, standing, lifting, reaching, pushing and pulling with a maximum of 50lbs.
