A Security Specialist’s is responsible for:
- Upholding the security standards of the Company
- Maintaining knowledge of all current security-related policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to SkyWest Airlines
- Functioning as a security policy Subject Matter Expert (SME) for employees, departments, and partners
- Understanding and being able to interpret/explain current security regulations
- Conducting security-related classes for SkyWest and contract personnel as assigned
- Assisting stations and other SkyWest departments with security compliance
- Assisting with designing and implementing, Security training material and audits
- Ensuring Security division training material is accurate
- Conducting security-related investigations and assessments as assigned
- Conducting security audits of SkyWest’s security program and/or stations as assigned
- Drafting correspondence to regulatory agencies (e.g., Transportation Security Administration, Transport Canada, etc.)
- Participating in regulatory compliance inspections and audits to include, but not limited to the International Air Transport Association, Department of Defense, and Transportation Security Administration
- Attending industry and partner meetings as assigned
- Presenting pertinent security information at meetings as assigned
- Responding to operational security events
- Reviewing regulatory changes and security policy updates
- Recommending updates to Company and mainline partner security-related processes to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Functioning as a liaison with law enforcement agencies, security regulatory authorities (e.g., Transportation Security Administration, Transport Canada) and mainline partners
- Able to pass required TSA and FBI background checks
- Have ability to possess a Passport
- A minimum of six months experience in airline, airport, security industry, or a degree in a related field
- Possess the ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold the integrity of the security program
- Strong investigation and/or auditing skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to organize and present information
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and type at least 30 wpm
- Innovative and self-motivated individual
- Ability to work well with limited supervision
- Ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines
- Team-player; people oriented
- Ability to travel approximately 10-25% of work schedule
- Ability to periodically serve as Security Manager-on-Duty 24/7 as assigned
Security Specialist desired qualifications:
- Working knowledge of aviation security
- Supervisory or managerial experience
- Current Ground Security Coordinator (GSC) qualification
- Previous instruction/teaching experience in classroom environment
- Technical writing skills background
- Multi-lingual
- Law Enforcement experience
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
- Ability to climb stairs, crouch, kneel, stand, walk as required to travel by plane, inspect and/or search various facilities or aircraft
- Ability to withstand extreme weather (heat/cold) as required by a variety of potential work locations depending on time of year
