Job Description

The Sewing Machine Operator assembles a variety of parts and products using sewing equipment/machines. They measure, align and sew parts and assemblies to predetermined specifications and drawings. The Sewing Machine Operator is responsible for properly constructing each item assigned in a timely manner. The production environment is fast paced and requires a high attention to detail. This position reports to the Production Supervisor

Responsibilities

· Operate single, double, multi-needle or other sewing machines to create finished apparel and/or other products

· Perform sewing duties (i.e. reinforce seams, attach buttons, hooks, repair zippers, etc.)

· Assist in different aspects of the department to assure workflow (i.e. labeling, quality control/assurance).

· Assist and ensure that daily production quotas are met

· Identify/maintain product integrity and quality of work at all times

· May perform minor maintenance of machinery as necessary

· Safely operate all equipment.

· Maintain a healthy and safe work environment.

· Assure that all products are built to the highest standard of quality.

· Maintain quality objectives and standards for the department.

· Construct assigned items/item components properly, following a combination of printed work instructions, integral samples and verbal instructions from the supervisor.

· Inspect in-process materials to ensure proper cut and shade compatibility.

· Verify that all materials are void of material flaws.

· Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.

· Keep workplace clean, tidy and in good condition.

· Return all tools and equipment to their designated spot after each use.

· Regularly inspect, clean equipment, notify supervisor and/or facilities maintenance immediately of machines or equipment needing repair or maintenance, and take any damaged or worn tools out of service.

· Assist in the training of new employees, as needed.

· Follow correct ISO procedures, including lot number tracking where applicable.

· Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to lift/ move a minimum of 25 pounds of material without assistance.

· Ability to sit, bend or stand for long periods of time

· Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent

· One-year work experience, preferably in manufacturing

· Basic sewing knowledge preferred

Must pass criminal background check and drug testing
