Role: Vice President — Institutional Securities Group Coverage (Operational Risk Department)
Location: New York, NY
Background on the Position
This role will reside within the Firm’s Operational Risk Department, providing senior coverage for the Americas Fixed Income Department (FID), and Institutional Equities (IED) within the Institutional Securities Group (ISG).
Operational Risk refers to the risk of financial or other loss, or potential damage to a firm's reputation, resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or from external events (e.g., fraud, legal and compliance risks or damage to physical assets). The firm may incur operational risk across the full scope of its business activities, including revenue-generating activities (e.g., sales and trading) and control groups (e.g., information technology and trade processing).
The principal role of the ISG Coverage Officer is to partner with the Firm's ISG Business Units and Control Groups to proactively identify, assess, challenge and drive mitigation of Operational Risks within the division.
Primary Responsibilities
> Partner with Senior Personnel from the business to proactively review and challenge areas of operational risk within the division
> Support risk assessments performing critical analysis as necessary and monitor data used to identify heightened risk and help develop risk remediation recommendations
> Perform Deep Dives and Lessons Learned exercises into material operational risk events (internal and external) and analyses of thematic operational risks
> Support Scenario Analysis activities where significant and emerging risks are assessed
> Support the review and approval of new products and new activities originating from the ISG Business
> Contribute to the development of presentations for executive management and senior risk managers, including reporting to boards and committees
> Work collaboratively in a high performing global team responsible for identifying, assessing, reporting, and capturing operational risk information
> Build solid relationships in the front office, operational, risk management, and other support functions related to the area of coverage

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
> Bachelor's degree or equivalent, ideally in a quantitative discipline, Finance, Economics or similar
> 5-10+ years of work experience within an Institutional Securities environment; internal experience in business, risk, and/or control functions (e.g., Operations, Finance) roles is strongly preferred
> Strong working knowledge of Equities products, markets, and business practices
> The ability to formulate and execute new ideas, and to critically evaluate proposals
> Strong analytical background
> Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple high priority deliverables.
> Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, both written and verbally
> Ability to work independently in a self-directed way in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 110000 and 190000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
