Founded by Dawn Russell in 2009, Treats for Chickens prioritizes health and happiness for backyard pet chickens. In 2013, the company became the first USDA-Certified Organic manufacturer of poultry treats, vitamins, and herbal bedding, producing hand-packed, small batches in the California wine country - Sonoma County. We are hiring one motivated forward thinker who is a self-starter that can step right on in, join our business, and take charge of our day-to-day Warehouse procedures.
NOTE: this is not your typical “warehouse” position. Treats for Chickens is a boutique sized company offering a great place to learn and work if you want to break away from the traditional linear path in a shop/office/warehouse role, wear many hats, use your energy and feel satisfied at the end of your workday.
Previous warehousing experience and familiarity with USDA Organic certifications, forklift operation, QuickBooks, and Shopify are a plus, but not required. Logistics management students or those interested in warehousing and logistics seeking relevant experience are encouraged to apply. Or, if you are experienced: please apply and bring your a-game!
Warehouse Operations Responsibilities: in compliance with USDA Organic standards
1)Purchase, receive, track and maintain ingredients and packaging
2)Ensure all items are received, stored, handled, and manufactured efficiently
3)Create, manage and assist Production with handling, blending, and packaging products
4)Maintain and update logs, records, lot numbers, etc for State of CA and USDA tracking and tracing
5)Ensure warehouse efficiencies, taking preventative measures to reduce out-of-stocks
6)Assemble, stage and schedule outbound wholesale and distribution shipments, monitoring costs and timeline
7)Follow up, track and resolve shipping delays and errors to ensure proper movement of shipments
8)Safely operate forklifts, hand tools, scales, and light machinery in busy/confined spaces
9)Ensure warehouse, equipment, shipping/receiving, production areas are kept clean and free of hazards
10)Assist with Shopify online orders as needed
You Are:
- Comfortable navigating a PC; utilizing software (Word, Excel), Gmail, Freight management systems, digital scales, light machinery
- A self-starter who can work efficiently without continuous oversight
- A lover of systems, process and problem solving but also understand the importance of a quick pivot
- Able to lift 50lbs for a short period, can stand, reach, kneel, climb, walk, push, pull and move for 6-8 hours per day
- Tactful with customers and vendors on the phone and via email
- Eager to troubleshoot and enjoy the art of multitasking
- Reliable, dependable, and can consistently arrive on time for your shift
- Friendly and organized with a team-oriented work ethic
- Vaccinated against COVID-19
Work Environment
Operations occur in a warehouse environment with no temperature control, a healthy amount of dust, and a few creepy crawlies to keep us company. The uniform is comfortable shoes and clothes that you aren’t afraid to get dusty.
Details
- Position: 28-32 hours per week
- Schedule: Mondays to Thursdays. 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; 3-day weekends!
- Location: Onsite in Cotati, Sonoma County, CA
- Starting Salary: $19. Salary increase dependent on the skillset/experience you bring
