General Purpose
Responsibilities
An Auxiliary Operator is responsible for the operation of turbine, boiler and associated auxiliaries as directed by the Control Operator.
Monitors boiler firing equipment for proper operation.
Monitors control instruments and records operating data.
Monitors boiler combustion parameters and is immediately responsible for the operation of boiler cleaning equipment.
Interfaces with the Control Operator and Shift Supervisor in optimizing the efficiency of the unit operation.
Responsible for clearing out equipment for maintenance and returning the equipment to service after maintenance is complete.
Requirements
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
An Auxiliary Operator is an Operator who has met the qualifications and passed written oral examinations set forth by joint company and Union training committees as minimum qualifications for the position of Auxiliary Operator.
Must have thorough understanding of coal-fired combustion principles.
Must have working knowledge of turbines and liquid-cooled generators.
Preferences
Knowledge of power plant equipment and systems.
Basic understanding of a tagout clearance system for maintenance of equipment.
