The Chemist will work primarily on Research and Development projects within the Spray Foam Insulation and Rigid Specialty Foam group. This individual is responsible for optimizing cost and performance of existing and new chemical formulations. This encompasses assurance that raw material specifications align with processing specifications, equipment capabilities, as well as the design and performance requirements of products used in building envelope systems.
This position will research latest technologies while using laboratory and foam processing equipment to create new test methods, formulations, and processing techniques. Effective communication of this knowledge will be demonstrated by sharing and teaching those within and outside our organization. This position will operate under the general guidance of R&D Team Leader, Spray Foam.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Research, develop, implement, and sustain chemical formulations for polyurethane insulation and Rigid Foam products.
- Product Research, Development and Testing
- R&D and Quality Laboratory testing
- R&D Chemical Formulating
- Produce Pilot Batches in Plant for R&D
- Operate and Maintain Foam Processing Machine
- Assist Technicians, Chemists & Engineers
- Participate in Laboratory Team
- Operate & Troubleshoot test equipment
- Improve methods to ensure data repeatability and reproducibility
- Execute Data Entry and Managemen
- Complete chemical inventory, SDS filing, spare parts and supply checks, and operating equipment maintenance
- New Product Research and Development
- Chemical formulation tailoring for unique customer specifications
- Operation of analytical, mechanical property testing, and chemical testing processing equipment
- Test equipment knowledge and test method development
- Processing technology
- Foam Processing Equipment Operation and Maintenance

Education:
Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science (or related technical discipline) is preferred Or, completion of an Associate Degree with 5+years of laboratory, engineering, or quality work experience.
Experience:
Five years as an R&D Technician, R&D Chemist or Plant Quality Lab Technician or Material Test Operator in a manufacturing plant, test lab, or R&D facility, plus previous leadership experience preferred.
