Position Summary

Applications are being accepted the position of Community Resource Officer at the Manassas City Police Department. The Community Resource Officer is responsible for working collectively with a mental health professional to identify and mitigate domestic violence and mental health cases and increase coordination with appropriate resources. This position will be assigned to the Administrative Services Division under the direct command of the Community Services Unit Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

Increases consumer access to services for those experiencing domestic violence and mental health concerns,

Conducts incident reviews, data collection, analysis, communication, and coordination to ensure mental health consumers and domestic violence victims are directed to resources.

Serves as key point of contact for the Marcus Alert system and facilitates initiatives related to the Marcus Alert system.

Manages relationships with broad groups of stakeholders’ organizations and the community to meet Marcus Alert goals.

Conducts research, promotes, and collaborates with key stakeholders on community-based programs that may be appropriate to expand existing regional programs to include but not limited to, prevention and diversion programs and treatment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Note: The duration of assignment is typically five years from the date of appointment. The incumbent may reapply at conclusion of assignment. External applicants would be ongoing if selected. An extension may be granted by the Chief of Police.

Minimum Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and Vocational/Technical training in law enforcement required. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.

External candidates must possess current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services law enforcement certification at the time of application submission. Five years of prior law enforcement experience is desirable.

Internal candidates must not currently be on probation.

Strong communication skills required. Training in public speaking, leadership, mental health and conflict resolution preferred. Fluency in Spanish desired but not required.

Must possess and demonstrate high initiative, a strong work ethic and a strong foundational understanding of the role of law enforcement in the community.

Must be able to work in a team environment, work independently at times and have ability to successfully partner with community organizations.

Schedule Note: The incumbent assigned to this unit will be expected to work flexible hours at times that may permit evening and weekends.

Special Requirements

Final interviews will be conducted with the candidates by a panel and external candidates must agree to participate in full hiring process, to include physical agility, polygraph, and background testing prior to final selection. Factors to be considered are: relevant training and experience. If selected for the position, external applicants must pass post-offer, pre-employment medical/physical screening, drug testing, and a psychological examination.
