Job Description

This is laundry processing work, at the full performance level, in a County nursing home facility. A position in this class sorts soiled linen and clothing, operates washing, drying, ironing and other laundry machinery, and folds and delivers finished linens and clothing. A position in this class is differentiated from those in related classes by the routine nature of the duties performed and the nature of the materials laundered. Positions report directly to a technical supervisor who is available and inspects all work.

Gathers soiled linens and/or residents' personal clothing from residential floors; pushes hampers of soiled linen to laundry; sorts soiled articles for subsequent laundering and/or other treatment; may spot treat soiled items.

Operates electric washing machines and dryers; loads equipment, adds detergents and/or other additives; removes after each cycle and sorts for subsequent handling, needed mending, or disposal; sorts, folds, hangs.

Sorts finished laundry for delivery or storage; labels resident clothing; returns clothing to residential floors; delivers clothing to owners; maintains linen supply in storage room and/ or linen closets; counts out linen quota for user facility; uses heat seal machine; wipes down and/or washes out hampers, machines and storage areas; maintains laundry room in clean and orderly condition; may perform recording, marking and other tasks to assist seamstresses.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Basic knowledge of laundering methods, supplies and equipment.
• Ability to learn the specific uses of assigned equipment and laundry products.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Must have full use of hands, ability to stand for extensive periods, bend, pull, push and lift a minimum of 40 pounds.

Schedule: Available first shift, Occasional Weekend & Holiday Rotations. *Please note, this part time position is for 1,000 working hours in a 12 month calendar year.*

Experience: Any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above is required.

Education: N/A Crime check: Criminal background check required.
