Glacier Fish Company is currently the third-largest at-sea harvester of Alaska Pollock in the Bering Sea. The company has grown to include multi-species groundfish operations through its ownership and management of North Star Fishing Company which combined represents a total of five vessels.

The position will work as an owner of payroll and related functions. The position will report to the Payroll Supervisor and assist the supervisor in administering payroll to a fleet of vessels. The position will work in coordination with HR and operations to ensure timely and accurate vessel crew payrolls and communication with crew. All aspects of this position require consistent attention to detail and experience with organizational systems. In particular, the payroll portion of responsibilities requires a best in class customer service attitude for our crew.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing and coordinating vessel payroll functions in coordination with the Payroll Supervisor.
  • Attend and take notes for disbursal at weekly groundfish meetings.
  • Enter crew charges and maintain crew charge accounts.
  • Track garnishes and 3rd party payments.
  • Maintain payroll and settlement analysis worksheets.
  • Resolve employee payroll questions.
  • Assist Payroll Supervisor in managing crew 401k accounts, including match calculations, year-end plan audit, resolving crew questions and crew outreach.
  • Handle/code crew insurance billing.
  • Track dependent coverage and benefits charges to crew and report to HR .
  • Fill out/return employment verifications.
  • Miscellaneous ad hoc reporting for various departments and government agencies.
  • Special projects as assigned by Controller and Payroll Supervisor.
  • Assist in implementation of new HRIS/payroll system.
  • Assist in maintenance of shipyard timekeeping system

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in an office setting, with some payroll or accounting related preferred.
  • Experience working in the Seafood Industry a plus.
  • Experience with high volume payroll a plus.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and the Microsoft Suite.
  • Focus on the department’s mission is to be a best in class customer service provider for our vessel crew.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Suite and payroll systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • A self-starter who is motivated and able to set / meet deadlines.
  • Friendly demeanor – approachable and helpful.
  • Creative thinking skills – generates new ideas and useful reporting.

Pay: $26.00 - $34.00 per hour
