Senior Business Analyst – Surplus & Specialty Lines
Job Summary:
Seeking a problem solver, excited to work in a continually evolving environment, who can provide insightful solutions and improve technology and processes to increase efficiencies across the organization. This role partners closely with Surplus & Specialty Lines’ Digital, Underwriting and Operations teams to develop groundbreaking solutions and address the inefficiencies of legacy systems and processes.
The Senior Business Analyst role requires an advanced understanding of insurance workflows and systems. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, possess an entrepreneurial spirit, have a service mentality, and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
The Senior Business Analyst is a member of the Surplus & Specialty Lines Operations team, which supports Underwriting, Claims and Billing & Collections. Surplus & Specialty Lines underwrites admitted and non-admitted General Liability, Auto, and Excess/Umbrella lines of business across multiple industry verticals, including Contracting, Transportation, Energy, Security, and Environmental.
What you will do:
System/Product Ownership
- Represents Surplus & Specialty Lines as a system product owner in order to provide requirements and prioritization. Ensure system design and implementation meet the business need and facilitate efficient processing for all customers.
- Works with partners in business and Digital, to define, build and launch products/platform features.
- Conveys the goals and product requirements for enhancements and new development with the elaboration of the user stories and requirements.
- Participates in testing of features and partner with Digital to ensure releases move to production timely and accurately.
- Identifies opportunities for improvements to workflows and technology; liaise with Digital team.
- Responds to suggestions and problems as reported by users, system error reporting and monitoring. Gains full understanding of each issue, documents, investigates and resolves it, while involving appropriate parties and providing status updates.
Process Management
- Participates as a subject matter expert on insurance concepts, workflows and systems.
- Recommends process improvements; Lead problem solving sessions with cross-functional groups to design streamlined workflows.
- Documents processes, including Visio cross-functional workflows and step-by-step guides.
- Lead training sessions.
Projects
- Build and develop project plans that encompass all impacted areas and monitor performance.
- Lead project teams or represent operations on cross-functional focused on implementing new technologies, products or procedures.
- Partner closely with offshore and underwriting teams to ensure quality and consistency when new systems or workflow launch. This may include providing training to impacted staff.
- Research and document internal business rules, competitor offerings or vendor capabilities.
- Motivate others to achieve goals and deliver high quality performance.
- Adhere to project timelines.
What you will bring to C&F:
5+ years’ experience supporting underwriting operations and claims operations, particularly in General Liability, Auto Liability and Excess/Umbrella lines of business, preferably at another carrier.- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Proven track record in delivering projects successfully and timely.
- Team player with excellent communication skills and stakeholder management skills to build sustainable and productive alliances across the organization.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate, prioritize and manage multiple activities or projects throughout the day.
- Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Experience operating within a diverse and global team composed of staff located in multiple locations and time zones.
- Willingness to learn from new experiences and new situations.
- Ability to anticipate client (both internal and external) needs and act accordingly.
- Attention to detail.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Information Technology or an MBA
- PMI or IIBA preferred
