Lake Air Products is looking for a working team lead to manage our weekend shift production team. You will be responsible for training, mentoring, and supporting our employees to ensure a safe and efficient second shift. This role will also work in a variety of production departments based on business needs.

Purpose

The Department Lead Operator obtains the daily work assignments from the Plant Supervisor.

The Department Lead Operator is responsible for the area and employees assigned to him/her. They accept the responsibility of managing the workload (clearing and job assignments), training and mentoring new and current employees to perform at or above Lake Air’s quality and performance levels. They accept the responsibility of building a team that works well together. They accept the responsibility of setting the standard, looking for opportunities to improve (standardized work practices, process, flow, lay out). The Lead is a point of contact for employees who have questions regarding project set up and the operation of department equipment and/or process in that department. The Lead is a hands-on operator. The overall department is responsible for manufacturing and delivery of parts fabricated from materials such as sheet metal, alloys, stainless steel, aluminum and galvanized. The Department Lead must master all the technical skills of the department – see corresponding job description for assigned department.

Safety

  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, rules and work methods.
  • Promptly reports injuries for timely diagnoses and medical treatment
  • Make practical safety suggestions so support continuous improvement in safety

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example
  • Address and resolve problems/issues in a timely manner.
  • Clearing the daily dispatch report
  • Assigning jobs for the day to each employee, assuring the employee has everything to perform the job.
  • Keeping a safety / neat clean organized work area
  • To mentor and build a team that meets and or exceeds Lake Air’s Quality and Productivity standards.
  • To standardize work practices within the area
  • Overall responsibility of quality and productivity of employees assigned.
  • Inventory accuracy.
  • Comply with the requirements of the ISO Quality Management System and departmental procedures, and work-instructions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of working in a manufacturing environment with department equipment.
  • Must have experience working in a job shop environment with sheet metal.
  • Excellent knowledge of department equipment and tooling.
  • Knowledge of working with different materials such as sheet metal, alloys, stainless steel, aluminum and galvanized.
  • Reading and following written procedures.
  • Reading blueprints and performing all necessary measurements.
  • Quickly and efficiently completing jobs with very few rejects due to cosmetics.
  • Set-up and run a job without assistance and few or no resets
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the mission
  • Flexible and able to multi-task; can work with an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
  • Bend and lift, loading and unloading work pieces into the machine, and move from one work station to another, alternately sitting and standing
  • Lift objects up to 50 pounds throughout the day.
  • Perform repetitive work more than 8 hours per day and weekends.
  • Read fine print and distinguish colors.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
