Job description
Professional Sports Publications is seeking a Writer/Copy Editor to join a growing editorial team that produces both industry-focused marketing periodicals (e.g. shipping and transportation guides) and sports publications. This will be a full-time, in-person position based out of our Manhattan office. Employees have the option to request pre-approved remote days when needed.
We’re looking for a team player who is eager to research, write, and edit copy for new publications at the company.
Responsibilities include:
- Researching and developing editorial projects
- Writing short- and long-form (500-1,200 words) magazine-style articles on industry-specific topics
- Coordinating and scheduling interviews with heads of organizations
- Editing copy for AP Style, fact-checking, organizing and proofing layouts
- Photo research and procurement; coordinating and planning with freelance photographers when needed
Skills desired:
- Experience working with Adobe InDesign and Acrobat is preferred.
- Candidates should have a strong background in research and should be comfortable pursuing projects independently, as well as collaborating with a team.
- Experience working in a newsroom/publishing setting is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must since candidates will be expected to correspond with individuals outside of the team.
- Candidates should be flexible and able to multi-task in response to changing deadlines and concurrent projects.
- Working knowledge of sports, and an interest in learning about various new topics is preferred.
The salary is $40K/annually + benefits
