Middleborough Public Schools is looking for a District Outreach Counselor. In this role, you will work collaboratively with Middleborough Public Schools and the Town of Middleboroughs Health Department to provide clinical and coordination services to Middleborough students and their families. The Outreach Counselor will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administration may also assign other tasks he/she deems appropriate.1. Maintain the highest and most appropriate learning expectations of students at all times as fostered by the school.2. Encourage parents and students to participate in the learning process through frequent and meaningful communication about students personal and academic progress.3. Provide Crisis Management support to all 5 district schools.4. Provide counseling interventions and social skills training in an individual/group setting.5. Consult with staff and parents regarding student concerns and refer to outside agencies as appropriate.6. Drafting and assisting in the completion of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans7. Actively participate in the building based Child Study Team Meetings.8. Background knowledge of and experience with students who have emotional disabilities, developmental disabilities, substance use and other social/adjustment challenges.9. Assists staff in behavioral interventions and strategies to assist learning.10. Conduct outreach and educational activities for the staff and community11. Review treatment plans for students managing substance use in their home/life12. Attempt to alter attitudes and behavior of parents and teachers that impede learning and personal growth.13. Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, individual, family, and group counseling to survivors and significant others affected by trauma, substance abuse, as well as support to children who have been impacted by substance use in their family.14. Provide resources for faculty and parents to address students needs.15. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all members of the school community to carry out responsibilities.16. Provide the assigned student population the help needed to become acquainted with the educational programs, support services, policies and procedures, and facilities of the school system.17. Provide counseling services as defined in students IEP and 504 plans.18. Work collaboratively with faculty and outside agencies, as applicable, in order to best meet the needs of each student.19. Demonstrate professionalism in accordance with school and district expectations and policies.20. Organization of at least 2 community based events a year with topics surrounding substance use/abuse, trauma informed care etc.21. Collaboration with the Family Resource Coordinator and Mental Health Liaison for the planning of professional development for staff and family awareness raising campaigns22. Outreach with community based groups to assist students managing substance use in their home/life23. Other duties as reasonably assigned by the Director of Student Services, Principal, Assistant Principals, Director of Special Education.
