The primary purpose of the school Physical Therapist Assistant will be to work with students with disabilities and serious health impairments. The Physical Therapy Assistant is expected to work under the supervision of a physical therapist to carry out treatment plans, provide services, make environmental modifications and work with staff to manage physical needs.

Duties and responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•Implementing individual and group treatment for Physical Therapy.

•Developing and presenting therapeutic activities to benefit special education students inthe least restrictive environment.

•Reviewing clinical records of students receiving Physical Therapy for completeness ofdata.

•Maintaining attendance and anecdotal records for students receiving Physical Therapy.

•Participating in multidisciplinary and parent conferences to discuss student progress, aswell as offering recommendations for specific therapy programs relating to bothindividuals and groups of students.

•Consulting with school and supervisory staff on matters relating to Physical Therapyincluding instruction on therapeutic intervention; appropriate use of therapeuticequipment, methods, and instruction; and student’s current level of function.

•Consulting with parents/guardians regarding treatment goals, specialized therapeuticequipment, and other recommendations to enhance the student’s functional abilitywithin the classroom and home setting.

•Ordering supplies and equipment as needed to carry out Physical Therapy program andmaintaining ongoing inventory of these materials.

•Contacting primary care facilities regarding student’s medical issues, adaptive equipment needs, etc., as they relate to the continuity ofservices both in school and in the home setting.

.Qualifications

•Valid State NYS Physical Therapy Assistant license from the New York State Office of Professions

•Associates degree from a CAPTE-accredited program

Working conditions

•Must be able to lift 50lbs and more plus stand and sit for long periods of time

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $58,000.00 per year
